Description - "Reuben" is a rising 5yo OTTB Gelding.
I purchased Reuben, fondly dubbed "Ruby" as a project in December 2021. Since then he has impressed me every which way, and has proven to be very trainable. Not to mention this horse is absolutely oozing potential. This is one of *those* special thoroughbreds. Ruby is a super nice type, with flashy movement (the hind leg on this horse is remarkable) and an even flashier jump. He holds a nice outline and has a soft snaffle mouth. He has got a bit of a shoulder-in and leg-yield on him, and he's just started schooling lengthen trot. He is green, but has a super great foundation on him. He has jumped up to 90/95cm and is currently schooling around 80cm. He is very trainable and rideable.
Ruby has got a great brain on him and an immense amount of raw talent + potential, but he is emotionally-sensitive. He will not go to someone who will get up in his grill when he is unsure or nervous. This horse has got a heart of gold and tries very hard to please. He can have a bit of anxiety, and can be horse shy in the warm-up ring, but he is very manageable and quickly settles and improves. He needs a very kind, patient and calm rider. Keeping in mind that he is a 4yo, I am positive he will only get better with age as he has improved drastically every month I have had him and with every challenge I have thrown at him. This horse is like fine wine. He walks straight on the float, travels well, yards well, ties well, etc. He recently had his teeth done and was perfectly behaved for the injection and the procedure. He grows a good amount of hoof between each trim. You don't catch him, he catches you. He is respectful on the ground. He is a wind sucker, but I give him something soft to crib on as it doesn't affect his weight - he only does it once every now and then out of boredom, or if he is quite stressed.
I have done my part, and he is now ready to go out and start competing with his special someone, but I want them to look after him as much as I have. He is a very friendly, affectionate and sweet soul who deserves only good things coming his way. I cannot speak highly-enough of this horse, I'm afraid if I write much more I will keep him. I have developed such a deep appreciation for this horse. But I didn't intend on getting yet another project this year and I can't have as many horses as I do!
